The 是 sentence
| Subject | (不)是 | Noun phrase |
|---|---|---|
| 李月 | 是 | 学生。 |
| 我 | 是 | 美国人。 |
| 我 | 不是 | 老师。 |
Negate with 不 before 是 — there is no separate negative verb.
Yes/no questions with 吗
| Subject | Predicate | 吗? |
|---|---|---|
| 你 | 是老师 | 吗? |
| 你 | 是中国人 | 吗? |
| 李月 | 是学生 | 吗? |
Say the statement, then add 吗 — the word order never changes.
